Amyntha, a young Spartan girl, is determined to prove the strength of women in a patriarchal society. She wants to fight beside her Spartan brothers, but she cannot. In a time of war between Athens and Sparta, no one is truly safe, much less a lone woman. Turning to divine wisdom, Amyntha seeks to show the bravery and ferocity of women through other means.

Ever since her mother's death, South was left to fend for herself. Alone, she faced starvation, naturally South turned to thievery. She became quite good, but a pang of hunger for adventure that clenched in her belly urged her to seek out a ship and join the crew.
