WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAMME WITH-- WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAMME-- THIS PROGRAMME-- WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAMME WITH -- Something is looming over the city of Perinslaith; attacking radiowaves, attacking the very fabric of what it means to exist. What it means to live and to die. In a dark and industrialized vision of the near future, the opening of a tear in the fabric of the universe threatens the survival of everyone and everything. It will be those born on the boundaries and on the edges who will be charged with making the choices that could see the downfall or the saviour of the fragile world in which they subside. Yet; with minds as fragile as the bonds which keep the city from falling, remaining whole could prove just as difficult as saving their fragmenting world before it flickers out completely.

This is a very short story I wrote about a colour-blind boy experiencing colour for the first time and being able to identify the evil of the world from the good through colour.

The fragile words glided from his mouth like it was a natural thing to say, his sentence crumbling into the atmosphere. "Your condition is incurable." This is where it all started, she was told she was going to die and she kept it from us. She lied and now i have to lie. If i tell anybody what i know, they will come and take me and my little sister, Belle, away. I can see in Belle's blue eyes that she doesn't know what is going on, she is still sheltered from all that darkness and i have to keep it that way. I need to protect her and be the mother she deserves, but never got. I remember when dad used to read me fairytales before i went to bed, mum couldn't because she was too ill. Sometimes dad would change the names of the characters in the books and slot mine and Belle's names into the gaps. It would always end in a happy ending, the fairytale ending we never got. Often I would lie awake and think about what I could do if I wasn’t me. If I was a normal little girl. All I wanted was the chance to be somebody special then my life would be worth living. I would give my life to be normal. I knew that some girls my age would dream about getting a pony, or a games consol, but all I ever wanted was my mum and dad back. Not the drunk dad, the real dad. On birthdays you are meant to gain presents but on mine I lost the only thing valuable to me: Mum. Never underestimate the power of death because you never know when it is time for someone you love to be whisked away from the winding path of life.

Amelia watched as her brother disappeared into the thorns not knowing that he was being led to another world. A world of danger. A world which depended on human blood to cure the sick. All Amelia can think about are the guards' words echoing through her mind: "She needs him." But why? Why do they need her brother so badly? What for? And who was 'she'? Was she seeking revenge? Because why would she need him and not her too? As Amelia jumped onto the new platform which met with her world she knew that she could never go back to her parents without her brother. They would never believe the truth. They would never forgive her. For if Amelia went back now she would have to live with the guilt of knowing that she let her brother die. The only option she has is to find him because without her brother she is nothing. It will never be the same. As Amelia makes her way through Aberowe, the games which are built to drive her away from her brother become harder and she becomes weaker, but she can't give up. Not now and not ever again.
