"Tate Moore is fucking psychotic." He stared at me blankly, like he hadn't just insulted himself. He snapped his gum, as my mouth hung open. Then something completely unexpected happened. He plucked the gum from his mouth and stuck it on my nose, thumb pressing it onto my skin until in stayed. I blinked in shock as he ducked forward and pressed his lips to mine. The kiss was short and brief, and he pulled away with that same expressionless look. I could feel the cool air drying the gum on my sniffer as he said, "Now, Poppy Dawson is fucking crazy, too."

"Sorry--Annie's a bit busy trying to figure out her life at the moment." After high school and a long list of denied college applications (and one too many headaches), Annie Horne has just about had it with trying to meticulously plan out her life down to the very last detail. And in lieu of a college education, she decides to pack up her things and move north for the year to work for her uncle's book shop in his small New England community. But it's been years since Annie's actually visted him, and the community has certainly changed since she was younger. And in a town that actually reads, manning the phones at her uncle's shop can be quite the task for an eighteen year old. But when her uncle enlists the part-time help of Theo, the obnoxiously excitable neighborhood paperboy, Annie finds her job to be a bit more complicated than she'd anticipated.

Summer is the busiest time of year in Tippington, but Lee has found herself (almost) completely and utterly alone. Her mother hardly counts as company since her dad left, her friends are either halfway across the world or otherwise inaccessible, and her long distance relationship is breaking down faster than a soggy biscuit in lukewarm coffee. Desperate to escape the smothering silence that has crept into her house, the job advertisement in the grocery shop window for a waitress at Scoop’s Sundae Parlour is a blessing in disguise. At least until she discovers exactly what a job at Scoop’s actually entails.
