I first wrote this poem about five years ago (2010). It was one of the first poems I wrote, and was reviewed by a local arts magazine as being a quirky, thought-provoking piece of literature.
In the poem, I explore the moment you first put pen to paper, and from where your ideas originate. Is it you writing those words; or, are you just a voice for your pen? Are you simply an enabler?
In my opinion, My Pen Is My Guardian also questions your trust, or sometimes, mistrust, of the one instrument you use to create literary music - and the idea that, essentially, your pen is the genius behind your work.
Have a read, and tell me what you think...
