The story is told from Dan's point of view. When he is picked for the 54th Hunger Games, he knows he cannot survive. Not with all the career districts who want him dead. But when he meets Phil, he realises he might have a chance of survival. Everything but the characters belongs to Suzanne Collins.

Phil has been away for two weeks visiting family, he comes home to find that Dan is sick. He insists on taking care of Dan and quickly finds out that Dan is adorably stubborn when he's sick.

" my name's blurry face and I care what you think. " Dan Howell has an unknown condition where he cannot see faces - no matter what he wears or does - they are always a blur. The doctors nicknamed it 'blurry face', and there's absolutely nothing they can do about it; Dan will have to live without faces. That is, until he meets Phil Lester - the 'bad boy' of Dan's new school - who's face is strangely visible to Dan; much to Dan's wonder and Phil's distaste.
