15 year old Ella is a quiet, intelligent and emotionally sensitive girl. Ella fears starting high school alone and she is still coping with the suicide of her only middle school friend who died a year before. Including her father who left her family with a large debt, shaping Ella's teenage life into an adult one: having to think about supporting her family and also keeping her grades up. Although she's a solitary teenager she's befriended by two teenagers who went through the same experiences as her: Emma and Logan. Emma resembles her middle school friend and Logan has known Emma since they were children. Ella absorbs into their group of friends and experiences a new vivid life, with boys, love , drama and later gets involved with her friends problems and finds that some people have it a lot worse then she does.
