Amethyst was a regular girl who lived with her mom, but doesn't know that her father is the wine god, Dionysus. Her mom has been trying to enroll her into the Eastern School of Mount Olympus or E.S.M.O. for short, but Amethyst refuses every time, until one day, her life is changed. A giant comes looking for Amethyst, but at the time, she's mad at her mom because, once again, she tries to enroll her into E.S.M.O. because she wants Amethyst to be protected. She finally comes clean before she's banished to the realm of the Evil Queen's castle. Amethyst misses her mom dearly, but she now knows that her destiny awaits her at E.S.M.O. When Amethyst arrives at the enchanted school safely, but has no idea where she is going. Dropped off in the nursery, she wanders around trying to find a way, and the first person she meets is none other than the head counselor of E.S.M.O., Farley, a red-headed man who stops Amethyst from entering a cave, but little does he know that Amethyst is the new student, so he takes her to the front desk to check in to Cabin 135: Home of the Wine God, but to the members of the cabin, they believe that she is an intruder. Amethyst is welcomed by the head cabin counselor, Sean Walker, who Amethyst thinks that she might have a chance with him, and she believes that he likes her too, but for now, she must focus on the mission that lies ahead for her. Amethyst must travel to her father's meeting place, where she has a conference with him. She also gets the chance to team up with his supernatural helper, Vanessa who guides her throughout the mission. To Amethyst, she's like a best friend. Along the way, they battle a lot of bad guys, so they must be careful. E.S.M.O. may be a school for sons and daughters of gods from Mount Olympus, but it also means that they have to battle enemies such as the Evil Queen. Do you believe that Amethyst can accomplish her mission? Do you believe that Amethyst and Sean are matchmakers? Find out in "A Hero's Journey."

This is the original, unedited version of Light as a Feather, Book #1. This book was the inspiration for the Hulu Original Series. The revised version is now available in bookstores throughout the USA & Canada from Simon Pulse. McKenna Brady thinks her junior year of high school is going to be the best ever when she's welcomed into the elite group of popular girls at Weeping Willow High School led by blonde, gorgeous Olivia Richmond. Prior to junior year, McKenna was known in her small town as the girl whose twin sister died in a tragic house fire, and she's overjoyed at the prospect of redefining her identity. She has a date to the Homecoming dance with Olivia's handsome older brother, and a good chance of being elected to student council. For the first time since McKenna's parents divorced, things are looking up. But everything changes the night of Olivia's Sweet Sixteen sleepover birthday party. Violet, the shy, mysterious new girl in town, suggests that the girls play a scary game called Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, during which Violet makes up elaborate stories about the future ways in which beautiful Olivia, brassy Candace, and athletic Mischa will die. The game unsettles McKenna because she's already escaped death once in her life, but she doesn't want to ruin her friends' fun. It's only a game, she reminds herself.
