Isobel's world is turned upside down when she meets a mysterious guy who reveals a devastating secret about her boyfriend. *** Isobel and Matt had been best friends for most of their school life when they decided to start dating. Comfortable around each other and knowing everything there was to know, a relationship seemed like a natural--and exciting--step for them. When Nathan arrives on the scene and secrets from the past become exposed, Isobel's world is set to change. Mysterious, dangerous and infuriatingly persistent, Nathan is the opposite of everything she's known. But maybe that's just what she needs to get over Matt. It's early summer, and in a small community on the central Jersey Shore, a black car screeches to a halt outside the Wright Bros grocery. Danny looks up from where he's working at the carwash to see the driver rifle out of the car and chase a girl rushing into the store. For some reason-fate perhaps or intuition-he decides to cross the lot and investigate. When he meets Mary, there is a great deal Danny doesn't know, but he certainly knows that he's been struck. For it's like the keys to an old car had been dropped into his hands and is about to start the engine that will forever alter the outcome of their lives. Some Place Better Than Here is a gritty, unflinching look at how we define family and come to grips with loss. It's about growing up in a small town, following your dreams, and mapping out the uneven ground that often lays between love, friendship, and sexual awakening.

Jesse Andrews is from Nebraska. The only language he knows is English. He's never been outside of the US, except for that one time his family went to Montreal. Despite of all of this, Jesse's mom decides that it's a good idea to send him to Israel for the summer. She wants him to "get in touch" with his heritage. He doesn't really have any other options, so he travels to the controversy capital of the world. There, he stays with the Gezer family and quickly befriends their three teens and twenty-something. Through these Israeli teens, Jesse is exposed to an entirely new culture and language and country. But regardless of the obvious differences, Jesse learns that no matter where you go, teens are teens. They throw parties and they drink and they screw up and they live. The only things separating these two types of teens is an ocean and a language. But when you can swim and speak, is there really that much of a difference?
