Some of the events are based on historical fact and the personal writings of Gülbeyaz and the people in her life. Haseki Mihrişah Sultan Born an English Princess, the formerly named Jane Tudor was abducted by Crimean Tatars while traveling through Italy on her way home from fostering in Rome at the young age of fourteen. The young princess was sold to the Topkapi Palace, where she was given to the young Şehzade Suleiman as part of his harem when he went to Manisa. With her quick wit and silver tongue, she quickly gained his heart, and he married her with his father's permission in 1513 after the birth of their son, Ahmed.
