It was unexpected when the form ended up in her mailbox. She and her friends laughed at it, finding it funny that the prince who wasn't heir to the throne required a selection in order to find someone to marry. But she still filled out the form. And she still got picked. And she was still rushed off to the palace.

Maxon looked like an angel. His golden hair was slicked back, and his tight tuxedo defined his strong arms. He looked over at me and winked. Heat crept up my cheeks as I averted my eyes and focused on the wine in front of me. As I took a sip, the world sort of faded, and there was Maxon, standing tall.
