The Guards wouldn't take kindly to me if they realized I was the blue haired girl who'd stolen from the market. I pushed the door to the orphanage open and walked in, looking around. It was dimly lit and very dreary. Typical for our town. "I would like to adopt a child," I said to the woman at the desk. The woman stood and led me into a room down the hallway and said, "When you're ready, come back out and tell me the child's name. We're filling up quickly, you don't need a licence," I nodded, glad because I didn't have a licence. All the children were huddled together in groups, trying to avoid the Guards scattered throughout the room. I saw one of the Guards across the room. He had my brother's arm and was leading him to a door in the back. Without thinking, I ran over and grabbed the Guard by the shoulder. He turned around and pulled the sobbing Ollie with him. "I'd like to adopt him," I said, pointing to my brother and trying to look as innocent as I could. The Guard eyed me closely and raised an eyebrow. He pushed my hood back before I could stop him. His eyes widened when he saw my hair, then he lifted his hand and slapped me right across the face. "Sawyer!"
