Jack Price, a small-town public defender living in Coles Creek, Mississippi, gets more than he bargains for when he's appointed to represent Lester Crowe, a mysterious drifter charged with the murder of local high school girl Amanda Dunbar. Jack soon finds out Lester Crowe is no ordinary client; he just might be the Devil himself. He's got a deal for Jack: help him beat the murder charge - by any means necessary - and Lester will help Jack with his failing marriage and alcohol problem. More importantly, he'll help Jack find his daughter, Sarah, who was kidnapped two years prior. Jack is torn. He'd do anything for his daughter, but he knows helping Lester Crowe could cost him his soul. With the help of a former client named Eddie who owes Jack a favor, Jack embarks on a mission to find Sarah on his own. In a race against time, Jack must find and rescue Sarah before Lester is acquitted for murder. Along the way he'll have to deal with Lester's minions - a group of people Jack's wife dubs the "broken men" - as well as the supernatural games Lester plays, even as he's locked in his cell at the Hernando County Sheriff's Department. This supernatural thriller, told from Jack's perspective and set on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, runs about 67,000 words. At least the first two chapters will be posted here on Wattpad.

This isn't a happy story. It isn't about the bad boy falling helplessly in love with the quiet nerd, it isn't a fantasy and it certainly doesn't have an happy ever after because this story is real life. Fairy tales are great and all, until you realize that they are just fairy tales and they don't happen in real life. If you're looking for something more childish and unrealistic, than I suggest Cinderella is perfect for you, otherwise carry on reading. Anna Winslet, a girl who was so depressed, so lonely, she decided to kill herself. She thought no one cared, she was wrong. One boy had been watching her and he slowly began to understand her. Even though technically he didn't know her, he felt as if he could just read her, she was like a book to him. But he never thought she would do what she did. All the signs were wrong, he couldn't understand what made her do this, who made her do this. His pain ran deep, he needed to know what happened. This is why we are here, we're here to help him and to tell his story. Maybe things would of been better if he never laid eyes on her, if she never committed suicide, if he never decided to uncover the secrets Anna had. Maybe things wouldn't of got messed up. I told you; this is not a happy story.
