~This is the original version of the story. Check out "The Mafia's Doctor" for the edited version. --- Kimberly Stratus was a doctor working at one of the best hospitals in America. She loses her license and ability to practice due to, as punishment, taking full responsibility of the 'walking patient' incident. On her search for a new job, Kimberly runs into the 'walking patient'. Knowing her situation caused by his actions, he offers a once in a lifetime opportunity. ----- "Look, you're a doctor-" He started. "Was." I corrected. "You can still be." He said, running his fingers through his dark hair, "Look, you can work for us and I'll pay triple the amount you were earning at that lousy hospital." "Us?' I asked. Who was he? How exactly does he plan on paying me triple? He grabbed my wrist and pulled me inwards, my face inches away from his chest. With his free hand, he gently tucked my hair behind my ear. His breath tickled on my exposed skin as he whispered two words that sent shivers down my back. "The Mafia."

"I was so surprised when I saw her red hair that day. I didn't have anybody with red hair in my family. So I figured she got that feature from him. And I found out years later when he needed me to pick up his mother from the airport. Her hair was red like fire, too beautiful to be fake. Just like my little Emma's."

*COMPLETED* "You think I'd murder you?" He laughed humorlessly. "I- what?" I stuttered, looking at him with a lost expression. If he didn't want to kill me, what was all of this then? "What's your name, speedy?" He asked after shaking his head. "Why would I-I tell you my name?" I tried to sound brave, but this whole scenario was just freaking me out. "I'll find out, eh?" He gave me a smirk. What? "For what? You can just kill me now. I don't want to live like this anymore." I breathed out. I really don't. His loud and obnoxious laugh pulled me out of my thoughts. What's so funny? "You're funny. But-" He took a step closer and I immediately stepped backwards. "-the stunt you pulled last week-" My back hit the wall and I gasped as he stood only a few inches away from me now. His finger lifted my chin and I gulped. "-was not." His smirk was replaced by a serious expression. His eyes were so dark and captivating, I couldn't look away. "And you know what they say, speedy?" He continued as his eyes flickered towards my mouth. I shook my head and his smirk was back. "Keep your friends close. But-" He clenched his jaw. "Keep your enemies closer."

~"You don't know me." I snap. "Sure, I don't. We've only spent more than half of our lives together. But I don't know you. Like at all, I don't." He says sarcastically, making me stand up from my chair and stand in front of him with crossed arms. He keeps seated on my bed, looking just as angry as myself. I study his face for a really short second and internally groan. Puberty did really hit him good. ~ · Why would Hades think that after two years of not seeing Emma and not answering her calls, she would still be the same? How could he expect her to still be that weak little girl that depended on him? No, Emma has changed into somebody he has yet to discover. Two years ago, these two had their biggest fight. Best friends should get over it and move on, right? But what if there was no way they could talk it out, due to an unpleasant misunderstanding? Two years of not hearing shit from each other. Two years of being separated...and that after a bad argument. Both too stubborn to talk about it. But wouldn't it be so easy to finally sit down and talk? Even after what they did at Julie's first party of the new school year? I mean, they could still act like it didn't happen, since they have both been drunk. Yet they remember and decide it would be best to just avoid each other. Well, they seem to do a really bad job.
