The Town is in the middle of the Woods. It functions happily, but cautiously, ignoring the Woods' constant presence. But, every once in awhile, someone wanders in. No one searches for them. No one watches out for their return. They are gone. Bryony would be the last person to leave her comforting home to venture the Woods. When circumstances lead her deep into the Woods, her only option is to keep moving. Cheshire has been to the Woods. Many times. So many times that the Woods might as well be her home. She has wandered its paths since she was a small child. When her friend Bryony deviates from her normal life and into the Woods, it is up to Cheshire to either bring her back or push her forward. Halcyon wants to know the truth. Both of his biological parents are dead or missing, and he is tired of being treated like he isn't good enough. He and his two friends begin their journey to find the other side, but will Halcyon find what he's looking for? Valerie doesn't like people. They talk too much. They get in the way. All she wants is to be alone. The Woods have always looked tempting, but she never dared venture into them. When she is persuaded to join her two friends on their adventure, she finds everything she ever wanted, but is everything as perfect as it seems? Gareth is quiet. He loves silence. It allows him to put his thoughts together. It allows his ideas to flow. The Town has always been full of noise and clamor. His two friends feel the same way, and together, they embark on an odyssey through the dreaded Woods.
