I'm a serial punner and simply addicted to double entendre. Speed punning is my idea of an adrenaline rush. So I decided to set myself a fun challenge - to combine poetry and punning and to do it within an hour. Writing this was about the most fun I've ever had composing verse. I hope that when you read this poem, you'll understand why. I've packed it full to the brim with references to some of the world's favourite literary greats and well-loved classics. So, this is me doffing my hat (in the most creative way I can manage) to all these fabulous people who have brightened up our lives in so many different ways. I don't want to ruin the fun but please leave me comments if you think you've decoded all the literary references I've slipped in here. 7 Kings whom played the game Over time did 2 fall to ruins And 1 was made to resolve the problems 4 who fought to their deaths Red whom couldn't forgive Blue whom couldn't forget Colourless whom wanted all Silver whom wanted none and the Queen whom couldn't decide her own fate, much lest others The Queen who had seen all the endings, The Queen who never gave up time and again, The Queen who could never succeed no matter how hard she tried, The Queen whose tears were locked up and hid away But where does the answer lie ? Under the earth or up in the sky ? Where is the key which can stop all these incidents buried ? Somewhere in my heart or in somebody else's ?
