Sixteen-year-old Asia Gray lives in an irradiated world where a healthy womb is a girl's only commodity. To make matters worse, the Mother Earth Goddess is evicting humankind from the planet, like a dog shaking a flea from its back. Doc, who ran a fertility clinic before the apocalypse, implants an embryo into an untested artificial womb in a last ditch effort to save the human race from extinction. After a tsunami washes away camp, Asia becomes an unwitting guardian of the embryo, which she names Gemma. She sets out to find her estranged father, the only one who will be able to deliver the baby.
Asia is captured by Tye. He becomes obsessed with her, saying Mother Earth has chosen them to engender a new world society, and begins to kill all island survivors who don't fit into his plan. He controls Asia, addicting her to black lotus and threatening Gemma. When she hears rumor of a radiation-proof city, Oasis, she flees there in hope of finding her father. Instead she meets Zach, a good-looking nurse who renews her faith in the goodness of mankind. But he also stands in the way of her destiny. Will she make the ultimate sacrifice before it's too late?
