He was the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader, the...BATMAN!! This first story line brings Batman into conflict with sadistic and brutal crime lord, Black Mask. The most powerful man in the city and ruler of Gotham's criminal underworld, Black Mask has vast wealth and resources, eliminated his opposition and is consolidating his power. Upon returning to Gotham City after his training, Bruce Wayne also learns that the venomous Scarecrow is planning to use a deadly and dangerous new drug called "Vertigo" into Gotham City, spreading fear and panic throughout the population. With Scarecrow and Black Mask forming an alliance to corrupt Gotham, Bruce must use his wits to defeat them. Supporting key characters include Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon, Lucius Fox, Carmine Falcone, and Vicki Vale.

Batman has proven to be a worthy opponent, capable of unraveling the Riddler's most intricate plans, but Nigma is dedicated to creating a widespread and more personal mystery that will confound Batman's vulnerability and make him bow under Riddler's superior intellect. Returning key characters include Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon, Lucius Fox, and Vicki Vale, as well as Dick Grayson and the mysterious Selina Kyle.

One of the most brillant scientific geniuses humanity has ever known, Victor is a immensely gifted researcher in cryonics and cryogenics having used his specialized expertise in that field to create powerful cryogenic weaponry as well as using it to preserve the life of his dying wife to drastically slow down the deteoriation of her incurable disease. However, when something goes wrong and a freak accident damages Victor's physicality and life, he seeks vengeance. Permanently altered to survive in a subfreezing state, his body is enhanced with with a special coolant system installed into his body. As that rages on, a familiar face shows up, proving to be Bruce's match physically. Joker is the unknown, unnamed villain that emerges in the heart of Gotham City, while Harley Quinn is a freakishly, sexual villain who is born from insanity. When Joker's influenced madness ensues onto Gotham and the shortage of neceessary supplies diminishes, it is up to Batman and the boy wonder, Robin to end Joker's reign of terror and protect the city at all costs. As the insanity decreases, a threat emerges from the romantic relationship between Joker and his gal that spews up returning tension into Gotham. With the stakes much higher than ever before, Batman must now test his wits, vulnerability, and awakened emotions to a bitter degree as the Clown Prince of Crime and the hormonal Jester toy with his intellectual mind. As Batman and Catwoman are forced to survive the one night in the super prison known as Arkham Asylum, the villainous Joker and his psychotic girlfriend Harley Quinn devise plans to unleash all of Batman's biggest and formidable foes and to bring them back from "retirement". When something goes terribly wrong that splits off the duo, the Dark Knight embarks on a personal journey while Catwoman deals with her past, the both of them fighting their way out of the maze of an asylum. With communications slow, back-up delayed, and supplies scarce, it will take the two of them, together or not, to defeat their greatest challenge yet. Returning key characters include Batman's rogue gallery of villains, Joker, Harley Quinn, Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon, and Selina Kyle.

He was the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader, the...BATMAN!! The story concludes with Bruce Wayne, a former shell of himself. Tortured by his past and losses, he refuses to take the mantle of the Dark Knight. Years later into Gotham City, the atmosphere is timid and tight. Security has decreased, and criminals have taken over the streets. The sightings of Joker and Harley Quinn have been gone. When a new generation of crime arises, an old and weakened Bruce takes the last reign to become the hero Gotham deserves, along with the help of a new Robin. Supporting key characters include James Gordon, Carrie Kelly, Selina Kyle, Harvey Dent, Commissioner Ellen Yindel, The Joker, and Mayor Stevenson.
