I'm not an idiot.
Despite what my twin sister and my best friend seem to think.
Tate and Drew Brooks love pretending they "grew apart" after high school like I was not standing there watching the entire disaster happen in real time.
The three of us were inseparable growing up. Tate is my twin. Andrew is basically my brother. Which means I know exactly what it looks like when two people spend years loving each other without ever saying it out loud until everything finally explodes.
After graduation, something happened between them. Drew panicked. Tate left town two weeks later. And for the last six years, they've both been pretending they moved on while acting like Oak Cliff does not exist anymore.
Now Drew's mom, Eleanor Brooks, is gone. And somehow that woman is still running everybody's lives from beyond the grave because she left them her lake house. Together.
Apparently her final wish was for somebody to stop running for five minutes and deal with their issues.
The catch? They have until Labor Day to decide whether to keep the house or sell it. If they cannot agree, it gets sold automatically.
Oh, and Tate has no idea Drew is already there.
Which means I'm currently stuck babysitting two emotionally constipated idiots in a lake house full of old memories, unresolved heartbreak, and enough tension to qualify as a natural disaster.
Honestly, Eleanor would find this hilarious.
