“Don’t you worry. Next time I will bring my own umbrella so I won’t pester you again.” “You don’t have to bring your umbrella anymore,” he said. My forehead wrinkled in confusion. “But why?” Carl made a sidelong glance as his eyes wandered somewhere in his right direction. He started laughing. It was the same feathery laugh that I heard moments ago. Then he turned to me and wore a beautiful smile in his lips. “Do you know how long I have waited for this opportunity to come just so I can spend this moment with you, under my yellow umbrella?”

Hudson Ellis is good at his job. Somehow, he manages not to annoy people when he knocks at their doors and asks them to contribute to the charity he works for - instead, he gets them to sign up for sponsoring programmes and fish whatever spare change they have out of their pockets. Even the infamously tough residents of New York City are falling victim to Hudson's easy-going ways and wide smile; that is, until one woman renders him speechless with sarcastic refusals and slams her door in his face. Perhaps Hudson would be able to forget her - if it wasn't for the fact that she lives on the same floor of the next apartment over, and they both have floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for a rather generous view into each other's flats.

There were three things that Dawn was certain of: 1) she's tall (she stands 5'10 which is really tall for a girl and according to her, well, she's basically a giraffe), 2) her best friend is getting married and 3) she believes that she'll never find true love. But things started to change after she spilled hot coffee to this strange man named Eric who is: 1) he's short (he stands 5'7 which is really short for a guy), 2) is actually her neighbor and 3) lost his belief in love. Will they find their way together to believe in something again? (Copyright © Flores, Catherine 2015)
