Eallair had bumped through life, following Tor's lead, but with the date for his own visit to the proving grounds looming, he needs to be sure of his own heart. Unfortunately, with his gift playing havoc with his eyesight, and the glare of others auras ensuring a constant migraine, it's proving difficult to focus on what he wants from life. It seemed easier to down a bottle of absinthe and pass out in a stranger's bed, than to worry about whether or not he should even be taking the trials. But maybe the trials were the answer to his problems; hadn't the Taghadairean taken Deòthas's magic as her sacrifice? Maybe they would take his gift too. And if they found him unworthy? Well, then he wouldn't need to worry about anything ever again. Tancred couldn't remember the last time he felt happy. Being chief had always been an honour, but after millennia of life, he was beginning to feel tired, stretched thin; his weariness went into his very soul. If he'd been another chief, in another time, he might have fallen on his sword, but as so many people kept reminding him, the Comhairle couldn't afford a change of leadership. The nobles would use his fall to justify the disbandment of the Council, and with evil still gathering, no one could afford that. Even warrior chiefs need something to live for, though. The lull left in the wake of the Manipulator's death was only ever going to provide a temporary peace. Raghnall had gone to ground. Cailean's demonic sponsors were unlikely to abandon their quest for chaos simply because one minion had fallen. The question? Who was going to make the next move, and can the Comhairle come through the next battle unscathed?

I was born the day Boudicca fell. My whole life I lived in fear of the day when Rome's armies would march northwards, into our unconquered lands. It felt inevitable. If the legions came, people would die. Farms and forts would be burned to the ground. Free people would become slaves overnight, and to stop such cruelty, the chiefs of the northern tribes would be asked to kneel, to swear fealty to an Emporer the people didn't recognise. Or we could fight. War was coming. I'd known that from the first moment I could know anything, but time was finally running out. And why now? Why, when Roman progress in Britannia had been thwarted so many times, did their reach now extend beyond the land of the Brigantes? It started with Andraste, goddess of war and victory. She turned her back of those she was sworn to protect, all for the love of a warrior far beneath her station. She condemned Boudicca, and all the fallen kings, queens, and chieftains that followed in the footsteps of the Iceni queen. I could hate the gods for their betrayal, but as a slave was about to show me, the sway of love was not something to be underestimated. So the question became this; could love survive the wrath of the gods?

War has come to the four realms, and while the mortals of the Mundane remain unaware of the risk to their freedom, the vampire race knows they must fight back before the wolves seal off Blutholme forever and leave them to starve. But they can't do it alone. To defend their realm, they need the help of the elahdril, the elven people of Galahidras. There's only one problem; an usurper queen still sits on the elahdril throne. Queen Heliana might have been elected to ascend to the throne when the last elahdrilas prince was murdered, but she is happy to let the wolves attack her own borders, as long as she is safe within the halls of Karycadra. She won't help vampires, not while she sees them as unwholesome, dead things, nor does she care that the Mundane will eventually be enslaved. Thankfully, she is not the last hope for the realms. Nekyra of Rhynlas had been three when her father, Prince Fardir died and she was whisked away to live in exile, hiding behind a human face. After the events of book one, she is finally ready to go home, to return to the realm of her birth and learn the ways of her people. She's ready to take back her throne, but to do that, she must persuade Heliana that she doesn't want the throne at all. She needs to survive, without being executed as a traitor, until she figures out how best to remove Heliana and bring to heel a people who see her as the breaker of traditions. To do that, she must wear her human face again, and hold her tongue when she would declare Heliana's time over. But she can't wait too long to take back her crown, not while Ric, the vampire who holds her heart, is at risk in Blutholme. It is time to become the queen she was born to be.

Ashelin lived a solitary life, content in its simplicity until the day it was taken away from her. Battling with her grief and struggling to find her place in a world that just became much larger, Ash clings to her simple purpose in the changing world, having a hand in forging it whether she knows it or not. A story of healing, of friendship and of facing the odds to make a better world for those to come. **This is a first draft, and some of the earlier chapters are...not all that great. I'm still learning and this story has been quite a journey for my writing skills, but if you can make it through some of the lesser parts, hopefully you'll find the tale I'm trying to tell.**
