Haley White and Taylor Cooper have been best friends since they were only 5-years-old. The two live in New York City, and walk to each other's houses every day. That is, they used to. Until Taylor's family moves away in the middle of the school year.
Now, with Taylor living in Florida, over 1,000 miles away from her best friend, letters are what keeps them connected. Taylor doesn't have a cell phone, and Haley's house doesn't have a land line... making it seem as if the universe wants them to write to one another.
The girls write notes back and forth for a while, but it starts to feel like Haley's letters are taking longer and longer each time. Almost to the point where there's no sense for Taylor to write to her. What has popularity done to Haley, and moving done to Taylor? And what does it mean for their friendship? The middle schoolers must attempt to pick up the pieces of a shattered friendship and glue it back together if they want the letters to continue. But do they?
