Unable to find a canvas, Dan makes the alleys at night his canvas - turning the walls into paintings. Phil Lester - the richest and loneliest kid around - finds the paintings, and soon finds himself drawn to the beautiful graffiti, which is only ever blue.

Phil's world is turned upside down, almost literally, when his college is the target of multiple murders. Most people are too afraid to leave their dorm rooms, and classes have even been cancelled on some occasions, the authorities begging for students to stay inside, and stay safe. But Phil is unlike the other people, he doesn't want to be crippled by fear. He is curious about the supernatural causes of death, and he yearns to find out more information. Maybe it's just his curiosity, or maybe it's him trying to find peace with his own mother's unexplained murder.

After Dan Howell dies at the tragically young age of 26, he is greeted by death with a book. A book of every lie that anyone had ever told him. This seems like harmless fun but as he nears the end, he realized everything isn't as it seemed in life with his best friend, Phil Lester.
