It was supposed to be temporary. A short-term solution, that's what they called the Wall all those years ago when they were putting it up. It was supposed to be around for a maximum of five years, just long enough to calm people down and diffuse the volatile situation left in the wake of the Wrobel's victory. Only, it never quite came down. 49 years later, Cassie is too busy worrying about everyday problems to pay much attention to the problems that don't affect her. She has a lot to deal with--among her problems lay maintaining a secret romance, keeping her band of mismatched friends safe and happy, and pioneering a role as the first Evo therapist. So it's understandable that she has her hands too full to pay much mind to the going-ons of her city--even if what's happening are huge protests and violent riots protesting the rapidly-approaching 50th anniversary of the Wall's existence. Unfortunately for Cassie, it's not a problem she will be able to avoid. During discrete rendezvous with Zak, the Non-Evo boy Cassie has secretly fallen for, they start putting together snippets of information--and an ugly glimpse of the future is forming quickly. With high stakes, limited time, and only bits of information, will the group of patch-worked friends be able to save both sides of the city, or will everything crumble around them?

My name is Violet Mercer. When I was about 4, I watched my parents die. A few weeks later, I was branded and shipped off with a bunch of other kids to my new fate, to train and learn for 10 years until I was sold to someone else as a slave. Brutal beginning? Yeah. But it's the truth. See, here's the thing. A few years back--maybe a little under 50--we humans did something stupid. It was part of an experiment called G42 by some genetics company that was trying to speed up evolution. What did they do? Well, they altered specific genetic strands to see if they could create a sort of super-human. Their answer? Yes. But there was a flaw in their plan. These new 'evolved' humans, or 'evos', were everything they could have hoped for--strong, and fast, and smart. Practically immortal, too, so what was the problem? They were born without emotions. Maybe this doesn't sound too bad to you, but our emotions? They're what make us human. What happened next was kinda inevitable: the Evos took over. There are two strands of DNA--get one, and your set for life. Get the other, good luck living to see past your sweet sixteen. And if you are one of the crazy (or brave, depending on who you ask) people who dares to bring a child into this world, you could give them the best, longest life ever, or doom them to an early death after a suckish life. So, yeah. Our world is screwed up. And we can't go to G42 for a solution, because as soon as the Evos realized the possibilities, they slaughtered everyone who might know something and blew up the facility. Now, dear reader, are you beginning to understand the use of emotions? This is my story. I still don't know how it ends, whether it was all for better or worse. But you're here. So go ahead and read. Maybe we'll both learn a little something. Welcome to my life. I hope you survive in this new world. By Earthstone #567 in Teen Fic on 6/17/2016

"Why do I have to be special, why can't I just be normal, a bystander?" "Ever since you were born you have never had the choice of being normal, you have always been marked as what you are, and it makes you valuable to many and your choices very few."... It was those words that changed my life, I had always been sheltered. Felt that I was never privileged to have a life of my own, due to ridiculous superstitions of others. But if I was honest with myself, I knew I was different. The way the servants would gaze upon me whenever they could but look away when I met their sight. The luminous glow of my skin that never seemed to go away. And with every passing day I stayed on the grounds, I knew that as my body changed and I was to reach the age, everything was going to change for me.
