After Lyon Vastia realises he can't have Juvia Lockser, he returns to his long-term friend who consoles Lyon in his sadness and heartbreak. His friend is Gray Fullbuster who Lyon grew up with and was a fellow pupil, under Ur's teaching. Lyon and Gray lost contact and were reunited when Lyon was trying to resurrect Deliora the demon Ur gave her life to lock away. Gray fought Lyon but after the matter was done with they didn't see each other until they reunited again during the Oracion Seis issue. Lyon joined the guild Lamia Scale with Sherry and Jura. Later on Lyon met Juvia, the water woman, and immediately fell in love but Juvia loves Gray. This is the cause of Lyon's heartbreak that lead him to go see Gray and be consoled. Little did they know this was the start of a bigger love....
