"You're so lame." Alexander comments as he walks into the kitchen. "Shut up, I don't care." I scoff as I continue to make myself a sandwich. I've struggled with body image issues since middle school, and during my freshman year of college I developed a pretty severe eating disorder. I lived in denial for months by telling myself that it was "nothing serious," just something I was doing to make myself feel special, or for the sake of having a dramatic secret. By participating in this campaign by the new Netflix series "To the Bone," I'm honored to share how I came to terms with my mental illness for what it really was, and I hope to reach girls who might be telling themselves something similar.

This poem reveals the emotions of a person who is losing the one they love the most to cancer. And as his life fades away and his grip is slipping, there is nothing to do but watch and hold on for as long as possible.
