James Wescott is a member of an ancient brotherhood of supernatural investigators living in early 19th century England. His travels have brought him through the Pennines, seeking a place to rest for the night. He sits on a hill overlooking the town of Ashton-under-Lyne, when the night is broken by a piercing scream. Riding in to investigate the cause of the sound he comes upon local law enforcement and helps them in their investigation.
