My heart skipped a beat as his face darkened. He took a menacing step forward, causing me to take a tentative step back. Seeing the motion caused him to growl and stalk towards me, grabbing me before I could move any further. "Don't." He nuzzled his face in my neck, my eyes fluttering shut at his proximity. Rose Compton is an innocent eight year old girl, dying from cancer. After a year of numerous treatments and pleas to recovery they've declared her battle with cancer lost and she should expect for her time to pass to come soon. This is a short story I had to write for school. The assignment was to write between 500-1500 words on a scene of a child's death and to make it fairly light hearted and not gory.
