Based on the hit broadway musical NEWSIES. The infamous Delancey brothers were more than brass knuckles and cold eyes. There was a story behind every scar and bitter word spoken. Nobody ever cared enough to find out their story, until now. It's a story of love and hate, good and evil, and about the struggle between who they are and who they want to be.

(By Spot Girl) An Excerpt: Winter, 1894. A small boy scurries along the sidewalk. His hair is the color of the mud his work boots splatter on the pavement. It snowed last night, but the cool white blanket that settled over the city has already turned an unapealing shade of beige. Welcome to New York. The boy tips his weathered cap to a well dressed lady as she passes by him. What a kid. He's barely a day over twelve, but he's already a real charmer. His name's Jack Kelly.

When Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise the distribution price one-tenth of a cent per paper, ten cents per hundred, the newsboys, poor enough already, are outraged. Inspired by the strike put on by the trolley workers, Jack "Cowboy" Kelly organizes a newsboys' strike. With David Jacobs as the brains of the new union, and Jack as the voice, the weak and oppressed found the strength to band together and challenge the powerful. (Written by Kaitlin Dwyer Rankins) Jack and David were the main characters, but they could not do it without Spot Conlon. Little is known about the King of Brooklyn, but as a character based on a boy who actually lived, he must have had dreams and ambitions just like fictional Jack and David. Here are my writings in a small attempt to give Spot Conlon the story--and the ending--he deserves.
