Harlan Montag é um ladrão em Dínamo, uma cidade encravada no meio de uma cadeia de montanhas e protegida por um gigantesco muro. Sua função é impedir que os cidadãos se conectem emocionalmente a bens, obrigando-os a fortalecer sua relação com a Teia - o nome atribuído ao Estado global controlado pela Internet. Dentro dessa Teia, o objetivo de Harlan é roubar sua amante. Kali Assange, no entanto, é uma bem-treinada fatalista, responsável pela limpeza social da Teia. Ela deve eliminar os cidadãos que já alcançaram seus objetivos e finalizaram suas atribuições à sociedade. Na verdade, Kali é uma assassina. Quando suas vidas se entrelaçam em um beco escuro e os objetivos de ambos se mesclam, os dois precisam, desesperadamente, mudar seus destinos e, de alguma forma, fugir do que é fatal. The fantasy novel I wrote before Prince of Thorns. It's 20 years old now! But I had a good time writing it and I think it's a fun read.
