Summer Chronicles, Part I: Poems from July 2013.

When Rory Edwards wakes up in a strange room in a strange town just a week before Christmas, the only thing she's sure of is... Well, nothing. And Drew, the man just as lost as her, is no help; a self-proclaimed champion of everything Christmas, Drew's Santa-hat-over-heels in love with the very holiday Rory has hated all her life. That's about as bad as you can get in her books. Then something happens that nobody had expected. Before she knows it, Rory finds herself face-to-face with her greatest fear, and ironically enough it is Drew who must bring her out of the darkness. This is the story of Rory's Christmas, of how a pessimist met an optimist and decided that maybe the world isn't so bad after all.

The world is full of crime. Ranging from small things, like slipping a lollipop from the local convenience store in your pocket when you think someone isn't looking, or the bigger. Most people would turn a blind eye, but Evie wouldn't. Meet Evie. Brash, arrogant, and reckless, she isn't exactly the hero-type. Not to mention notoriously sarcastic in the most inappropriate situations. She's infamous for going against the grain and cracking bad jokes while she's at it. Average, normal maybe, if she wasn't telekinetic. Add in a sidekick, a mentor, and some epic fails, and you're in for a ride.

Daughter4254 used to think life in a community where art, music and names are outlawed would suffocate her creative spirit. Now that she’s rotting in a prison cell, she’s not sure her dying mother made the right choice when she entrusted her with the secrets of rebellion. Prison has given her plenty of time to relive every mistake and lose all hope. Her next stop is the MindWipe. Then she meets Thomas, a fellow inmate, who tells her stories of the mythical mountain colonies where people have names and the arts thrive. Together they plot an escape, knowing if they fail, they will die. Or worse, their consciousness will be taken by the MindWipe, leaving their bodies free for the government to use. When nothing goes as planned, Daughter4254 must choose between using her mother's secret to better the world she hates, or following Thomas to the quiet life of freedom she has always craved.

Excerpt Still carrying the small A5 book, I edged towards my front door and opened it. And there he stood, wet hair plastered to his head and dripping clothes clinging to his body. He stepped into the house and out of the rain so suddenly, I took a step back. He grabbed my waist and my neck, drew me towards him and silenced me with his cold, wet lips. I didn't hesitate or pull away and as I wound my arms around his neck, the A to Z clattered and dropped to the floor, laying at our feet.
