I was never the one to stop and smell the roses, but that was until I met her on that dull September afternoon. Civil Romance. Is there even such a thing? The reason we are so drawn to romance novels or movies is the emotion it evokes in us. As humans, we often want what we don't have. We enjoy the cliche romance because we yearn to prove the relationship we are in, we enjoy them to dream about the possible, we enjoy them to drive the heartache of being alone, we enjoy them with our anger, we enjoy mocking them, to cry over them, to pray for them; we just enjoy them. They are called a cliche for a reason, even someone like myself understand how ridiculous a romance is. Two characters meet, fall in love over the odds against them, break up, and end up together. Although, there are also the tragic romances, where one of the characters is dying and the other has to live with the fear of losing them, and grieving when they are lost. Yet, A romance is never clean. They shouldn't be. A true romance is wild, it is unplanned, and is something that can't be controlled. So when we watch or read about romance and scoff at how alike they are, remember the fact that there is two people involved with different emotions, and often we forget how the little things can change the relationship. One grows apart, or someone just changes. A perfectly normal human change. All of these things have a toll on a relationship, and all must never be forgotten. Even in a story like mine, a ordinary romance, can be changed by the little things in life. Can there ever really be a civil romance? Can you ever really have peace in love?
