After a brutal act of police brutality, the most important figure in Kendra Lyon's life is ripped away from her. Consumed by grief Kendra has channeled all of her anger towards her peers not trusting those who don't look like her. She's built up a strong wall of emotions against them in order to protect herself that no one can seem to tear down. That is until she meets the one boy who could possibly see her beyond her rage. He's willing to endure her smart remarks and sassy attitude just to catch a glimpse of the real Kendra Lyon. Kendra vows to never fall for him because after all he's just another white boy and to her, that's an insult to her father's memory.

A possible future in less than 500 words, if plastic wins. This was my entry for the WattPad/National Geographic #PlanetOrPlastic competition back in late 2018. It reached their Top 10 Submissions which, given that there appeared to be well over 5000 entries, was a very pleasant surprise! The competition itself had a limit of 500 words so, for those who keep asking if I intend continuing the story, the answer (for now!) is no - unless I can find a very good reason for adding any more. This is my very personal attempt at trying to get some baselines of fiction writing across. It's fiction in itself. Or so I think. I will also try to explain what humour is. With a 'u'. Darcy's life is not turning out at all as she expected. While her brother is getting married, moving to the big city, and getting job promotions, everything she touches seems to turn to dust. Pressure from her family to settle down causes her to give into temptation. Against her better judgment, she lies and tells her family her new boyfriend will be joining her for Christmas. Of course, this boyfriend is nothing more than a figment of her imagination. Will Darcy find true love for Christmas or spend the holiday behind bars in her attempt to put on a show for her family?
