'Let me help you.' It's a simple request, but it still manages to leave Kaylin- a human living in the undercities below a world of towering pertheans- a little confused. After being unexpectedly sent to a deskmate school, she had been trying her hardest to keep her fear of pertheans undisclosed so as not to hurt Derrick, her new deskmate. But after finding out about this fear, he's not hurt or upset- rather, he's offering to help her overcome it. Why? Is beating this fear even possible? What's in store for Kaylin and Derrick when they begin to meet up after school with the goal of fighting this phobia? The safe refuge everyone around her calls 'home' feels like a prison to her- so when she learns that there are other tribes somewhere in the forest, the decision to leave is hardly a choice. She makes it her mission to search the woodlands and bring the lost tribes together. But to do that, she'll have to leave her own tribe behind... which means leaving the people she loves most in the world. The forest is rife with predators. Beasts like humans; towering beasts that prowl through the trees without care or concern for the life they might trample. Leaving might just turn out to be a suicide mission.
