What if Peeta was never hijacked nor taken to the Capitol? What if Katniss really loved Peeta? What if Katniss got pregnant when she, Peeta, Haymitch and Plutarch arrived in District 13? The rebellion is over. Katniss still has her nightmares. Peeta still has his flashblacks. Will they grow back together of will things or people get in the way? Will it be a happily ever after with someone different?

After Mockingjay: Peeta Mellark is broken. He is scarred, he is alone and he doesn't know what is real and what is not. Worst of all, he is scared of himself and almost everything around him. He needs to heal and so does Katniss Everdeen. But does he even have any feelings left for the girl on fire? How can something that was once so strong ever be fully gone? Now that the war is over, Peeta still doesn't truly know if he can trust his instincts and when he returns to his home in District Twelve how will he cope? He has no family left and he is unstable. He could snap again at anytime. Katniss and him need each other but is he willing to open that door in fear of hurting her again? As they grow back together they will experience many ups and downs, highs and lows, and hardships. But together they can pull through and make a better life for both of them. All rights go to Suzanne Collins for these amazing books and characters, I just wanted to share what I believe would have been Peeta's experience and what might possibly have happened to the character's after they ended.

This is the second part of Broken Pieces, the story of Katniss's and Peeta's life after the war. Katniss's nightmares seem to be getting worse, to the point she can't tell the difference between reality and dreaming. Katniss and Peeta's "friendship" seems to be getting a little more serious as well.

Katniss receives letters from Peeta and feels guilty for not writing back sooner. She soon realizes how much she needs Peeta and debates whether to write back or not.
