So even though he was called a hero and acknowledged by the civilians but he didn't feel pride in what he achieved. Those people he defeated and put behind bars were also humans who had seen the world from a different perspective/angle from his own, they chose this type of lifestyle because there is no other way for them to be seen or heard. Did he do the right thing by defeating those 'villains' who simply wanted to be heard? Did he do the right thing by blocking them from getting their revenge against those that looked down on them and rejected their existence?
