Sinopse: kirito é um garoto que não possuía muitos amigos e se sentia mais vivo em seus jogos de realidade virtual do que em seu próprio mundo, em uma jogatina dessas ele descobre que foi vítima de um jogo terrível, onde não é possível sair e os perigos no mundo virtual também afeta o mundo real.

Na mesma time-line de SAO. Um garoto chamado Hideki(Katsuo no jogo)que iniciou seu recém comprado Nerve Gear as 13:30,com o objetivo de se divertir com seus colegas de classe mas às 18:00 a vida de todos dentro do jogo iria mudar......

O único meio de escapar é "zerar" o jogo. Game over na verdade significa "morte" --- Os dez mil que se logaram no ainda misterioso MMO "Sword Art Online" foram forçados a participar deste horrível jogo de morte. O protagonista Kirito, um dos muitos jogadores, aceitou essa "verdade". Ele joga como um jogador solo no gigante castelo que é o palco para esta realidade virtual ---"Aincrad". Para encontrar as condições de zerar o jogo --- passar por todos os 100 andares, Kirito luta sozinho nesta jornada.
