[Copyright © 2014] In 1943, Charlotte Truly is a nineteen-year-old American nurse serving in World War II. The oldest of four daughters, Charlotte is mostly a shy and reserved girl who keeps to herself. But when Charlotte meets William McCaden, an injured soldier on leave whom she'd briefly met when she was seventeen, she finds herself falling inexplicably in love. When Will is shipped overseas to Nazi-occupied France to fight in a deadly combat mission, Charlotte and Will have only their letters to keep each other close... but in the midst of war, how can love possibly survive? ----- DISCLAIMER: This work was written when I, Raine the author, was 14 years old (circa 2014) and is a FIRST DRAFT. Certain aspects of this story are highly problematic and should rightfully be called out. Please do bear in mind, however, that the entirety of what you see here was written (unedited) by a 14-year-old girl. Now, I as a 20-year-old writing student am fully aware of my mistakes and would like to apologize profusely for them. They are not reflective of my present character by any means and I can assure you that I FULLY condemn the slut-shaming, misogyny, white saviorism, racism, and the general oversimplification of vastly complex themes and historical contexts you might see in Yours Truly (2014). As much as I would like to chalk it all up to being a sign of the times (the very backwards 1940s), I understand now how I should have handled this particular time period with more tact and discretion. Especially with how I recklessly portrayed the horrific racial climate of the 1940s American South. Again, I am very sorry and can wholeheartedly promise you that any later drafts of Yours Truly would 100% rework all of these themes and contexts with the utmost of consideration towards the communities they affect directly. Thank you. -Raine, Feb. 11/2021

***WATTPAD FEATURED Nov 2017*** Penniless, hungry, and stranded at a truck stop just before Christmas, Jane Johnson has few options. So when rescue comes in the form of three Kentucky hillbilly brothers--two of them mute--she reluctantly accepts. When they hire her to paint a dilapidated nineteenth-century hotel in middle-of-nowhere Nebraska, she expects nothing more than a few days' work and a meager paycheck. Instead, as the days turn into weeks, she discovers the true renovation is taking place within the brothers--and herself. Initially drawn in by the men's unexpected kindness and droll humor, she's mystified at their reticence to discuss their past. When shocking revelations about their family entwines with her own, she questions all she knows about her history. Soon she must decide if digging for answers is worth tormenting the men who befriended her. "The Marvels of Prairie Creek" is the first installment in a romantic women's fiction serial featuring the most off-the-wall leading man you'll ever meet. If you like slow-burn romances, wry-humored men with mysterious pasts, and true-to-life characters, then you'll love Lynne Mickley's witty tale of life in a small Nebraska town. ***Iron Lace Awards 1st place winner, The Monthly Elimination Awards 1st place winner & Grand Finale winner***

A blacksmith's apprentice who would be a knight. The heir to the throne, at death's door. One woman who would save them both, if she could... Charlotte was number sixty-four in the second group of young, hopeful maidens intended to meet the Prince at a grand ball in his honor. That introduction was not to be. She returned home to her tiny village- and her visions of a future limited by it- without any warning of the drastic turn her life was about to take. Soon she would be fighting against the odds to help keep a gravely wounded stranger alive; and waging war with her own heart, as he stirred feelings in her she'd never known. When the stranger's royal identity is revealed, Charlotte is faced with an entirely different battle: one to keep her family, village, and the injured Prince in her care all safe from a madman set on taking the throne by any means necessary.

***THIS STORY WILL BECOME FREE ON JULY15th!*** Beverly Curie only lives for herself (and maybe ice cream). When her three nieces are suddenly put under her care, she must do the impossible: think about someone other than herself. Beverly is the only member of her family left in Chestnut Ridge, where she's kept the same routine for eight years: do as little work as possible during the day, marathon sitcoms in the evening, and try (for the life of her) to get everyone to leave her alone. When she loses her position at Red Ribbon's Craft Store, Beverly is left without a job and without a paycheck. Then her estranged sister, Aimee, calls with an impossible favor: Could Beverly take care of her three nieces for six months? It's insane. But then there's the thirty thousand dollars that Aimee offers to pay and Beverly can't resist. Suddenly, she's stuck taking care of three little girls, trying not to kill the soccer moms at the snobby Percival Academy, and joining the PTO. Now Beverly--self-serving, sarcastic, and problematic--must take on the role of a loving parent. And she is anything but. ***Unedited*** A companion story to my novel Shadows May Fall. *Folks who have been reading along - you may have noticed that some of the parts have been unpublished (the ones set in 1904 and 1908.) The reason for this is that while I really enjoyed delving into the past with these characters and fleshing out Daniel and Lillian, they weren't really adding anything and coming up with a third one to fill the gap was just that -- filling the gap. I'll post them over at my website once this story is complete.
