She is coming back from Afghanistan to have a year of education so she can be moved up in the ranks(Idk if ranks is right) and then be deployed again. You see, she put this emotionless face to hide all her sorrow. Tris had been captured once and tortured in Afghanistan. She keeps it all bottled up.
