Pain is all Alex has ever known. Taken from his people as a child, he was trained to be a hunter for the humans. Alex's mixed blood makes him an asset for tracking, so he spends his days gathering Kiya to work in the factories with the other Haydeans owned by the company. His only knowledge of the world outside The White City comes from the stories he hears from them. None of which are very pleasant as Haydeans attack hybrids for fun. Their mixed blood is viewed as an insult to the proud humanoid race, and the purebloods make that known. Besides the threats from the others, Alex is punished for any failure by Sir. The human has invested a small fortune in the hybrid and has big plans for the boy when Alex is approved to enter The Black City. But when an opportunity to escape The Tower presents itself, Alex takes it. Despite the dangers, he races off across the desert and begins his long journey home, where he hopes a family might be waiting for him.

[Book Two] After surviving and ending the torment Riley faced for a year, he goes back to his regular life. As much as he tries to forget Hart, the memory still follows him, this time in the form of Hart's sister, Seraphina. Her unexpected appearance brings the undeniable news that Hart is still alive and more than ever trying to bring his mother back, despite his failure. When Riley searches for Hart, he finds the one thing he has wanted for so long - the truth.

It wasn't anything special, but after three years he'd managed to spruce up the place and make it almost-bearable to live in. Over the years he'd made friends with random people he often passed on the streets and did manage to hold down a few random jobs, but like everything else, they came, then went. Now he was left with fifteen dollars and twenty-two cents, a torn blanket, one outfit, and a dream for a better life. He just didn't know that he'd find it somewhere he'd never thought to look... or with someone he never knew he'd want.

[Book Three] Hart enters hell to search for Riley, instead finds that 30 years have passed when only three months have gone by on Earth. Not only does he find Riley, but he also finds the true purpose of his existence and it doesn't give him a pleasant vision of the future.
