When James wakes up, his head his pounding. He can't remember drinking anything, but supposes he must have because it feels like he's been hit square between the eyes with a bludger. He's never been one to get hungover, but he knows this is what it's supposed to feel like. Although, come to think of it, he doesn't remember celebrating their victory on the pitch, isn't completely sure they had one at all. The last thing he remembers is turning to look to the stands, revelling in the roars of his fellow Gryffindors, certain that they were going to beat Hufflepuff. Then, he turned and... was hit square between the eyes with a bludger. Now he's stuck in the hospital wing, and the bed next to his is occupied by none other than Regulus Black.

Ginny Weasleyová si připadá jako ta nejšťastnější žena na světě. Má skvělou rodinu, válka skončila, doma na ní vždy čekají dvě děti a milující manžel. Nebo to si alespoň myslí ona. Pravda je ale úplně jiná. Opravdu je po válce a na ni doma čekají dvě děti, ale Harry už není žádný milující manžel. Po dvanácti letech s Ginny ve vztahu už nemůže jinak, než zbaběle minimálně jedenkrát v týdnu tajně utíkat pryč z domu do mudlovského světa, aby tam našel to, co si jeho tělo žádá. Druhé mužské tělo. Jednou ale narazí na někoho, po kom každé ráno po jeho návštěvě zůstává na druhém polštáři jen jedna rudá růže. Draco Malfoy, blonďatý aristokrat, který je nepsaným vůdcem zmijozelské koleje, již několik dní dostává zamilované dopisy od neznámého ctitele. Ano správně, ctitele. Pisatel dopisů se totiž vůbec netají tím, že je stejného pohlaví jako zmijozel sám. Každý večer vyšle sovu, aby Dracovi jeho dopis doručila, a mladý Malfoy je možná až příliš nadšeně přijímá. Nevadí mu ani jejich obsah, ani neznámá totožnost jejich pisatele. Dalo by se dokonce říci, že je za ně rád. Psaní od dívek vždy nekompromisně pálil, aniž by si je přečetl. Tady je to jiné. Tyhle dopisy si totiž i schovává a důvod tohoto počínání zná jen on a jeho dva nejbližší přátelé. Co se stane, když se jednoho dne konečně rozhodne na psaní odpovědět?
