At age seventeen, I suppose I'm what's referred to as an online sensation. Since I created my own YouTube channel two years ago, I have accumulated over ten million subscribers. To my followers, I'm the 'Pretty Mess Princess'. My brand is make-up and beauty. I vlog about my everyday life. Online, I appear to live a glamorous life. Offline, I'm just December Jones, a homeschooled, introverted, Texan teen who hides from the world in front of the camera lens. Until my mentor and friend--one of the world's most famous makeup and hair stylists--offers me an opportunity I can't refuse. To be her apprentice, her assistant hair and makeup artist for the famous band she works for. Erosion Road. The most famous five boys in the world. A British boyband who have taken the music industry by storm. Legions of fans follow their every move. Their lives are no longer their own. I had no idea what to expect when I flew from Austin, Texas to join Erosion Road's European tour. Turns out, most of them are sweet and boisterous and kind. Some have even become my closest friends. Then there's Jack. Jack Summers, the eighteen-year-old mysterious brooding heartthrob who launches millions of teenage girls into a frenzy with just one look. Jack Summers, the boy who has turned my life upside down. The situation between Jack and I is... complicated. From the second we met, things between us were strained. These days? We can only be described as a mess... a complete and utter mess. Young Adult/Teen Contemporary Romance.

One of the most *frequently asked questions* I get from readers of my published novels: "Was Dear Martin the first book you ever wrote?" The answer is no. Dear Martin was the third. The second (at long last!) will be published in Spring 2022, but the first will never see the light of day... Or so I used to say. *Used to* because we are currently in the thick of a literal global pandemic. And we're bored. And trying to stay motivated/encouraged/hopeful, etc. etc. So here it is. Nic Stone's first EVER novel that wasn't supposed to see the light of day. Starting today, April 1st, 2020, I'll post a chapter a day for the next 50 days (you read that right; this joint is LONG) and will leave it up indefinitely. You will laugh--AT me, but also occasionally with me. You will roll your eyes. You will have moments when you wonder if *The Nic Stone* actually wrote this long and intensely tropey and cliche book. About a 16-year-old biracial girl who sometimes glows in the dark, and after the death of her mother, discovers not only some latent supernatural abilities, but a prophesied mission she'll need them for. It is not professionally edited and is likely full of typos (though this was like the twelfth draft). It hasn't been beta-read and probably has some problematic rep in it. But my hope is that by posting it as-is, someone out there who doesn't feel *good enough* will see THIS starting point of a #1 New York Times bestseller and will be encouraged to get the story nagging at them down on paper. Even if it's never "published," there's no telling where it could lead. I hope you enjoy (or at least get a good laugh). Thanks for reading! Nic Stone

What lengths would you go to in order to achieve your dreams? Spencer has always seen the world through numbers. While they watch those in negative numbers strive for positives and those in the positives risk everything to stay in the positives, they long for the simplest of numbers: Zero. At Zero, they will experience true tranquility and feel at peace with themself. To help reach as close to Zero as possible, Spencer writes books, novelettes, poetry and more. By sharing their experiences as an agender person living with a mother who doesn't understand them (nor try to), they hope to inspire others and assure them they are not alone. When Spencer is given the opportunity to work with a publisher and publish their own book, they are determined to write a romance book proposal that no one will want to turn down. The only problem: none of their ideas are authentic enough. Since Spencer never felt the need to date before, their writing teacher encourages them to pursue romance to help inspire their book. While Spencer is determined to not date anyone, they are willing to give it a try for the sake of their writing. And when they find out their cute classmate seems to be interested in them, they decide to see where their blossoming relationship will go. After all, they're willing to do anything to reach Zero.
