Her lips were laced with sugar, and the moment he tasted them, he knew he'd never get clean again. Even in her sleep, he couldn't stay away. There was something about the sweetness of her breath, the way her lips parted like they were still whispering his name, even in dreams. She was warmth in a world that had gone cold.

He smelled of cigarettes and sorrow. The cloud that clung to him was as thick and heavy as his hollow stare. She saw him almost every day. Same seat, same order, always the sweets. Never a word. Never a glance that lingered too long. And yet she couldn't look away. There was something about him. Something burned down and is still smoldering. Like the silence after a fire, and she wanted it. Wanted him. The way some people crave what's bad for them, like his cigarettes.
