Russell Whitaker is one of many secrets in The Pitt. Tucked away on the eighth floor, he spends his days playing board games alone while his big brother Dennis saves lives downstairs. It's not permanent, but it's life for now. Being homeless, nine, and hidden gets lonely. Russell's forced to find solace in Scrabble, Superman, and the knowledge that Dennis is doing the best he can with what he's got. On the anniversary of the worst day of Michael Robinavitch's life, a poorly-timed asthma attack sends Russell right into the thick of it, emergency after emergency. And even though everyone-including he himself-knows that he's just a kid, Russell is drawn to trouble like a moth to the flame.
