It is rumored that in the waning days of summer in 1993, famed Oceanic explorer Pierre Lamont visited the California side of the Sierra Mountains for the purpose of assisting the United States Geographical Administration in their quest to finally map the bottom of Lake Tahoe. During Lamont's first and only dive, attempting 1,000 feet beneath the surface in his famed submersible "Midas", all communications were lost for approximately 30 minutes. When a visibly shaken Lamont surfaced, he greeted his support staff with silence, immediately canceled all further dives and retreated to his hotel room alone. When asked repeatedly about what happened to him below the freezing blue of Tahoe he finally stated simply; "The world isn't ready for what's at the bottom of that lake." No video or data from his lone dive was ever released.
