A story set in the Warhammer 40k universe that I entered into the recent Black Library submissions window. A Planetary Defense Force squad led by a former Imperial Guard trooper are sent on a mission to a seemingly innocuous facility in the vast forests of their home world. Before long, the true nature of the situation at Facility IX becomes clear, and the squad are in a fight for their lives against a terrifying and insidious enemy. The work was not selected to be taken any further, so I am uploading it here in the hopes that someone will still be able to enjoy it. Please let me know what you think!

In the uncertain world of 2076, everything rides on the whims of consolidated megacorporations as they vie for survival and global dominance. To protect themselves and their interests, these monolithic firms of tomorrow employ a new weapon in the shadow struggle for economic and political superiority: the genetically engineered "artificial" human. Designated as "genetic capital" by the all reaching Hexadyn Biotechnical Conglomerate, Lucy 636 is one such individual. With perfect genes and mechanical enhancements, she is stronger, faster, and better than her peers. Part cop, part assassin, part soldier, she fulfills the most extreme needs of Hexadyn's elite Special Investigations Department in the field. Not that she has a choice; she's company property. Still, following orders is never a guarantee you'll last on the razor's edge, and a single misstep can easily upend Lucy's fragile place in the world. When a routine seeming case goes south, Lucy quickly finds herself thrown down a path of betrayal and conspiracy... A path that will find her targeted, tested, and faced with revelations about herself that she may not be prepared to confront. [Violence. Strong Language.] ---------------------------------------------------------------- A much needed fresh start for my work here.

The Xykeree, past enemies of humanity, should never have been allowed to dock at her home port. And they're just the start of her problems. Throw in a hereditary neurological illness and a secret society of soldiers genetically tailored for psionic combat and she has herself a whole new level of trouble ... the kind that could destroy her personal foundations and imperil billions of lives. [Completed] The Royal Guard of the Empire has faithfully served Byzantia for nearly three centuries now. Hand picked from foreign lands, these guardsmen hold no political ties, carry no agendas, and bare no creeds except to those who sit upon the Onyx Throne. They are vanguards, protectors, loyalists. They are Vangen. Change has come to the Empire. An Empress sits upon the throne now, destroying any who would rebel against her with both fire and iron. To the east, her loyal Vangen work to quash the newest rebellion, until a letter arrives one day, marked with the Empresses seal. The contents within bare only dread and disturbance for the Guardsmen. The Black Ministry, the former Emperor's cabal of Sorcerers, have turned against the Empress. The Vangen's return is bittersweet. The city they once called home is now a battlefield, every street a choke-point. Every home a possible nesting ground for rebels. The Royal Guard will have to fight tooth and nail to put down the Ministry and protect the Empress, but the deeper they go, the harder the lines begin to blur. In a world where good and evil does not exist, where then does a man's loyalty lie? (Comments and Feedback are always appreciated)
