I was sure the worst thing to ever happen to me would be being kidnapped, and sure, that was pretty bad. However, what was worse was being kidnapped, held captive for years, and then being auctioned off to the highest bidder. I thought maybe I had caught a little break when I found out that me and five other girls were being sold to royalty, but I should have known something about that wasn't right either. Under the cover of eternal darkness, and deep beneath the ground, was a whole world I never even dreamed existed in my wildest dreams. It was a world that promised to be more than anything I could imagine. The people who bought us told us we would have the luxurious life of a princess, but there were only two catches... 1. We would be competing against each other for the affection of the Prince who would change our whole lives by picking one of us to rule at his side. 2. That prince just happened to be a vampire.

I asked, with a teasing smile of my own. A frown married his devilish good looks. "It seemed a lot better before you said that." Pressing his finger to my lips, his cold, green eyes gazed into my own. "I think I prefer you with your mouth closed, little mouse." He gulped, a heaviness taking over his expression, but just as quickly as the expression showed, it was gone. A fierce look of determination crossed his face. "You may have given up already," He said with an accusing tone and finger pointed at me. "But I sure as hell haven't." But was I giving up too easily? Knowing that Aspen was going to die was one thing, but knowing how would be ten times more beneficial to the situation. But I didn't, and neither did Rory, so what were we left to do? We couldn't tell Aspen and we sure as hell couldn't stop him from doing every little thing if it meant he could die. If we stopped him from living his life so he wouldn't die, it wasn't exactly a life worth living anyway. * Raven has been able to see and communicate with the dead for as long as she can remember. But that's not all. She can also tell when someone is about to die. So when new boy Aspen comes to town, she finds him nothing short of annoying. He's way too persistent in trying to befriend her when all she wants is for him to stay away, not just because he's annoying, but because he has a black ring around his neck that no one but her can see, and she knows exactly what it means. Aspen is going to die and there is nothing she can do to stop it.

Looking at him from across the cafeteria my heart just stops. He bites his lower lip slightly as he reads the following words off of his new book, adjusting his hair from time to time.
