"She was not looking for a knight.
She was looking for a sword."

Breana Marchand
Born in the 18th century to a merchant family, Breana is the third child of Pierre and Eliza Marchand. Unlike the daughters her family hoped for, she has no interest in dancing, embroidery, or the quiet life expected of a lady.
To her mother, she is a disappointment.
To her family, she is a burden.
But Breana refuses to shrink herself into something she is not. While others practice manners, she finds freedom in exploring the woods and learning how to live, survive.
Her defiance, however, comes with a price.
When her family arranges her marriage to Dixon, the illegitimate son of Lord Rickon-an arrogant drunk known for his cruelty-it is not for love, nor even duty. They sell her for money, eager to fund lavish weddings for their more "worthy" children.
On her wedding night, Breana learns exactly what kind of man she has been handed to.
But Breana Marchand is not helpless.
Armed with a small knife hidden in her hair, she fights back the only way she can. She wounds Dixon and escapes before he can destroy her life completely.
That night, she becomes a fugitive.
With nowhere to go and no one to trust, Breana runs-leaving behind her name, her family, and the life that tried to cage her.
But survival demands more than courage.
It demands strength.
And somewhere along her journey, she crosses paths with a man whose name carries both fear and legend:
Tobias Jeremiah Cross.
A knight feared on the battlefield.
A man who trusts no one.
Least of all a girl with secrets.
Breana never wanted a savior.
But fate may have other plans.
