At sixteen, could you run the world? Could you look after the food, the water, the electricity, the government... the children? Evie Ballentrae isn't equipped to deal with any of that. But like everyone else her age, she doesn't have a choice. 'The Fan and The Things That Hit It,' is the Part I of The Sleep. - "At first I thought it was a joke. Some sort of well-orchestrated, viral meme thing. An overly elaborate flash mob. But after a few hours it was serious, after a day it was scary, the weeks passed and it was terrifying, and now... Now we have to make some serious decisions about how to live, and more importantly, what to live for." -

Every year on their birthday, the people of Seabrook wake up with a new ring around their arm with a number running along it, showing their new age. It doesn't affect life much, it's just there like the tides or the sunrise. Just weeks after Willa's fifteenth birthday, she starts getting new rings, even though she hasn't aged. At first she ignores them, but then she starts to get dreams along with the new rings. These dreams seem like memories, but the events in them haven't yet come to pass. It seems that Willa is having dreams of the future. And the dreams don't just involve her. They also include her best friend. Feelings develop, tension rises, and relationships are tested as Willa struggles to understand what is causing these strange new events. *Mild swearing, and some words censored* *All characters and settings are my own*
