**SPINOFF TO SHADOW** Being surrounded by Supers when you're not one yourself is pretty strange, to say the least. For one, they're always running off to save some damsel in distress or rescue a kitten from a tree. That means that I have to share my notes from chemistry class with them when they miss school. For another, they might start talking about things that you can't relate to. "Oh, man. The feeling of a bird crapping on your face while you're flying three hundred miles per hour over the thousand foot skyscrapers? Horrible." Lastly, you kind of get left out of the Super loop. You know, that gossip of the Round Table that's only shared between Supers? Yeah. I'm that outsider. But the difference is that this time, I think I didn't just know a few things that could help the superheroes out. I knew enough to become a spy for them. My name is Cameron Knight, but the rest of the world will know me as Inferno. _________________________ Cameron Knight had a rough childhood, sculpting her into a slightly reckless teenager when she grew up. When she was taken under the cloaks of two superheroes eight and a half years ago, she got used to the fact that her life wasn't normal and it never would be. She was surrounded by Supers wherever she went, between her adopted parents and her best friend. She didn't think her own apartment would fall victim to another Super, or that it would be a villain. "I never wanted to be a superhero. But I guess being a regular old hero every once in a while isn't so bad."

Marianne Averrige is not like other superheroes. Her costume isn't made of flashy skintight spandex. Her hair doesn't flow in waves of glorious curls. And her powers... well... they kind of don't exist. To tell the truth, Marianne isn't even really a Super. She's a Normal. She spends her time performing small rescues for ordinary people down in the corners of Fantastic City -- the kind of people that ordinary Supers don't have time for. And even if she calls herself a Super, she knows, deep down, that they don't care about her at all. But that isn't enough to discourage her from pursuing her childhood dream. By any means possible. • Highest Rank #2 in supervillain • "Do you trust me?" he asked, still staring at the gray door. "Of course not," I said, as if the idea were absurd. A ghost of a smile crept at the corner of his mouth. His hand latched onto my arm. Panic started to pool out of my nerves. I glanced back and forth between his gloved hand and the concealing hood upon his head. Curiosity never hit me so deeply than it did at that moment, as I wondered who was under the hood. Who it was that I was supposed to trust. "Who are you?" I timidly reached my free hand up to his head, fingers tingling all the while. He didn't try to stop me. There was a brief second when excitement exploded inside me, propelling my hand all the more quicker, millimeters away from touching the black cloth. Ghost grabbed my hand mid-air, his reflexes acting lightning-fast. I started. Drums began to pound in my ears. My heartbeat rose about ten notches. He had his entire hand wrapped around my wrist, and he slowly eased it down until it was parallel with my body. "A villain can choose to reveal his identity, but not knowing is the beauty of mystery," Ghost said lowly, his right hand coming up to push back a loose strand of hair from my face. "Now close your eyes." Reluctantly I shut my eyes, but not because he had commanded the action. It was more out of fear of what was going to happen next.
