Jake was born blind. He has never seen anything, or anyone. Not his family, not himself. His family doesn't have enough money for a guide dog, so for the first 15 years of his life, he had to rely in a walking stick, and the generosity of others. He has to deal with a lot of bullying, and names. "Here comes the blind man! Everyone stay silent!" He has to deal with people walking away in the middle of him talking, and being left talking to no one. It's hard for him. Andrew has just moved to Jake's hometown. On the outside, he looks normal. But he actually is dealing with a lot in his mind. He had to move because hid dad got fired, and his mother had a miscarriage. They had to get out of their town. Andrew has been bullied too, but he doesn't know why. He developed severe social anxiety, and chronic depression. Though, he would never show it. He, too, has never had a true friend. Only his dog, which had to be left to his aunt. Now, he has nothing.
